Happy New Year and Welcome MECHINA Families to this month’s I-Mude! Since many of you are on vacation from school at this time, why not take a free Vacation to Israel without even leaving your house- no passport required! This all inclusive travel deal is brought to you by the courtesy of the fabulous VBS I-Mude. So, let’s board the plane and get ready for take off!
First, meet “Srulik” your tour guide! Srulik is a well know Israeli cartoon character and he wants to take you on a virtual trip to Israel. Throughout the trip, you will be able to explore Israel and learn about the country’s national languages, currency, geography and food. The tour begins by clicking the Sea of Galilee in the North. Explore your way down the map until you have reached the last city Eilat.
Now, Srulik wants to have fun with you by jumping through the history of Israel game. Travel through history here. Were you ever curious what makes Israel a land that is so special? Learning about Israel is so fun, important, and easy to do. Check out some cool information and learn something new.
Did you know that on July 4, 1927, the governess of the Sephardic orphanage in Jerusalem tried to teach a group of boys to play baseball? Unaware that could be used for anything else; the boys dropped the baseball to the ground and began kicking it around! While Israel is still better known for its soccer fans, the “great American pastime” baseball, has recently become very popular in Israel. Find out more about baseball in Israel. Start at Home, run around the bases two times. Read every other letter to find the hidden words in this puzzle.
Of course no trip to Israel is complete unless you bring back some souveneirs and gifts for your friends and family back home. Shop for items from Israel before you go back home.
THE I-MUDE CHALLENGE (Bring this item to class for a special prize!):
Now that you had a fun time on your trip to Israel with Srulik, draw a picture of your favorite city or symbol that you learned about during your travels. Or bring the worksheet from the baseball game with the hidden words filled out. Also, if you want to show us how “Israeli” you became during the tour, bring in any souvenir from home or from one of your family’s trips to Israel.
Message From your Teacher Dalia:
We are learning the Hebrew Letters: Hei, Chet, and Vav. During Hanukkah we learned the blessings, songs, rituals, and more. We celebrated in class by lighting the candles, singing, and eating Latkes and Sufganiyot. We are practicing the blessings and songs for our upcoming Mechina Naming Ceremony, February 23, 2008. We will begin the New Year continuing to prepare for our Naming Ceremony.
