SPECIAL NEEDS PROGRAMS
VBS COMMITTEE ON DISABILITY CONCERNS
ADVOCACY
To be an advocate for VBS members with requests for assistance due to a
disability. To make available synagogue aids such as arranging for
signing interpreters, sanctuary hearing aids, large print prayer books,
Braille prayer books, Chumashim, and wheel chair lift access to the
pulpit. To interact with the greater Jewish community by participation
in the Federation Commission on Jews with Disabilities and working with
the Reform and Orthodox groups that are already involved in disability
awareness. No fee.
OUR SPACE PROGRAMS
For Children and Adults with Special Needs
SHAARE TIKVAH (Gates of Hope)
This is a once a week Hebrew/Religious School Program for children with
developmental disabilities, with a diagnosis in the Autism Spectrum, for
children and young adults aged 3-18. We generally have three to four
classes, divided by a range of age levels and levels of functioning. In
addition to the classes for children, we have a Monthly Parent Bagel and
Chat (B&C) Support group for connecting, networking, and learning.

Meets Sundays from
9:00-11:00 a.m.
MORESHET (Heritage)
This is a twice a week afternoon Hebrew/Religious School class for
children with learning differences that may need a small learning
environment. It is a class for students that have special learning
needs. Call the Hebrew School office at (818) 788-3584.
Meets Monday and
Wednesdays from 4:00-6:15 p.m.
B'YACHAD
Jewish youth group for children with Developmental Disabilities aged 9-18. Meets one
Sunday each month, in the afternoon.

CHAVERIM
An adult educational and social group of high functioning
Developmentally Disabled adults located in West Hills. Call Chaverim at
(818) 464-3361 or e-mail at info@chaverimjfsla.org for information.
SHABBAT SHEARIM
Shabbat Shearim is celebrated by Shaare Tikva on the first Friday
night in June. The students in the Shaare Tikva Program, in addition to
participating members of Chaverim (Friends), lead the entire
congregation in the Shabbat evening service.
