Philosophy
The VBS Early Childhood Departments recognize that young children
have their own special ways of learning and experiencing the world.
We acknowledge that the school must teach the TOTAL CHILD:
Emotionally
Cognitively
Physically
Socially
Spiritually
We seek to create families who participate actively in Jewish life, at home, in the Synagogue, and in the larger community.
We strive to create children who:
Emotionally
Develop communication skills
Achieve autonomy
Problem solve
Develop self esteem
Acquire pride & love of our Jewish tradition
Experience a love of learning, sense of wonder and joy of discovery
About Our School
The Staff
Our teaching staff is specially trained in child development and early Jewish education. Our staff is dedicated to the school - many of our teachers have been with us for more than a decade. We are warm, nurturing, creative, and display a diversity of cultural backgrounds. Our staff is especially open to communication and sharing with parents.
The Programs We Offer
Infant Classes
1¼ hours weekly -- 2-5 months, 6-8 months
Each child is unique. Our program is designed to encourage parents to respect the individuality of their child through discussions, observations, and loving support. Infant gym helps develop gross motor skills and encourages exploration.
Bridge Class
1½ hours weekly -- 9-13 months
This class bridges the gap between infant and toddler. Children become more interactive with the group and parents continue to learn and grow with their children.
Toddler Classes
2 hours weekly -- 13 months - 2 years
These classes continue to offer parent education, music, Jewish celebration, art, cooking, and outdoor play as children grow and develop. In our warm environment, children and parents form new and lasting friendships. Children, placed in age-appropriate groups, begin to socialize and develop a healthy self-esteem as they explore the world around them.
Transition Classes
4 hours weekly -- 2 years+
This program continues to focus on the development of children's self-esteem and growing autonomy. Independence is fostered as children begin the process of separation.
Working Parents
13 months and up
A toddler and parent class that helps to address the needs of working parents as they are constantly challenged by the demands at work and home. This class is offered on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.
Grandparent and Me
1¾ hours weekly -- 15-30 months
Grandparents and grandchildren are the dots that connect the generations. This is a time for grandparents and toddlers to nurture the bond that exists between them. Each session includes stories, singing, art activities, snack, and indoor/outdoor play.
Daddy and Me
1 ½ hours weekly -- 14-30 months
Dads will share wonderful experiences with their children. Each session will include stories, singing, art activities, snack, and indoor/outdoor play and meets twice a month on Sunday mornings.
Our VBS Family Center offers evening education programs and support groups.
