Ruth and Albert Peskin Outdoor Chapel

WEDDING

Commentary by Rabbi Harold M. Schulweis

It begins with the chatunah, with the wedding. And it has there a cup of wine, and on the cup there are the four statements that are found in the blessing: "Ah-ha-va, ach-vah, rayute v'shalom." Love and friendship and peace. And beneath that you have the two rings, and then from the liturgy of the wedding ceremony, "Kol chatan, v'kol kala," the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride. And above that, the line from the "Song of Songs,"
"I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine."
