The Chesed Connection
We are God’s partners in the creation of the world.
We are God’s partners in repairing and healing the world.
We are commanded from within the torah and compelled from within the
Jewish heart to respond to the suffering and need that fills our
world.
Chesed means "loving-kindness." Performing acts of chesed is one of
the foundations of Jewish life.
A contribution of charity can
provide vital resources to help and to heal our world. but
performing an act of chesed with one’s own hands not only helps and
heals, it brings us closer to God, and fills our lives with
purpose. It shows our children the meaning of a Jewish life, and
demonstrates to the world the character of the Jewish people.
The VBS Chesed Connection rallies the enormous volunteer energies of
our VBS community in projects that serve needs right here in our own
neighborhood:
Habitat for
Humanity builds and repairs homes in underprivileged areas;
Heal the Bay cleans and protects our Southern California beaches;
Project Pushcart collections of clothing, food and other goods for
local and Israeli charities.
Sova is a food-bank serving thousands of hungry families.
Operation Gratitude seeks to lift troops' morale, and bring a smile
to their faces by sending care packages to service members overseas.
Through
these and many other projects, we can respond to the call of our
tradition to assist, to help and to heal.
