Karen Getelman and her family and have been part of the VBS community since moving from the east coast 19 years ago. She has served on the VBS Board and Executive Board for many years, previously as the Vice President of Activities for four years and of Membership for one year. She currently serves as Vice President of Development. Karen has also chaired many VBS events and activities including Annual Gala Celebrations, Community Dinners, Hanukkah Fair/Boutique, Golf Classic and Mitzvah Day. Karen also serves on many local boards, including the Women’s Philanthropy Executive Board of the Jewish Federation Valley Alliance, Heschel Day School and University Women of the AJU. She is an active parent at de Toledo High School and will co-chair the school's annual campaign. Karen has used her legal background to volunteer each week at Bet Tzedek, providing legal services for needy clients. She has been married to Mark for 27 years, and the Getelmans have three children, Nicole, Zachary and Jayme. Karen loves to exercise, and enjoys playing Mah Jong, reading, travel and spending time with family and friends.
