Meet the Board

VBS USY is by teens, for teens. Our chapter board is comprised of students of all grade levels within USY, and is tasked with scheduling, preparing, and running events for the chapter membership.

Genevieve Kaplan - Chapter President
Hi! My name is Genevieve Kaplan and this is my second term as the VBS USY President. I’m in the 11th grade and go to Cleveland High School. A few of my favorite things are juggling, working with children, helping with Hevrah, and eating acai at Ubatuba! My favorite thing about USY is making tons of new friends and having fun with other Jewish teens! Hope to see you there!

Kyle Burns - Religious Education VP
Shalom! I am Kyle Burns and I am in 11th Grade at Northridge Academy High School. I have been going to USY events for far too long to remember. I am active in Ham Radio and I love Religious Ed because it gives me a chance to mold and shape the minds of future USYers

Rebecca Yasha - SATO (Social Action/Tikun Olam) VP
Hi, my name is Rebecca Yasha and I am a freshman at Calabasas High School. I love USY because it gives me a place to connect with other Jewish teens and make new friends. This year I am excited to create some positive change in the world with the help of all of the VBS USYers and get others excited about social action and tikun olam.

Maya Plafkin - Israel Affaird VPMy name is Maya Plafkin and I am in 9th grade at Taft Charter High School. My favorite thing about USY is being able to meet new people who share my love of Judaism. One of my favorite places in the world is Israel where you can find amazing food, culture, geography, weather, and my family. I enjoy the arts, playing sports, cooking, traveling, and being part of the VBS community, youth group, and USY. I am looking forward to year full of learning new things, meeting new people, and meaningful experiences.

Stephanie Sussman - Communications VP

Hi! My name is Stephanie Sussman and I am a freshman at Taft High School. This is my second year on the VBS USY board and I am so excited to be back. As Communications I want to help connect you to what we are doing. I can't wait to see everyone in the youth center!

Alexandra Bresin - Parlimentarian

Hi! My name is Alexandra Bresin and i’m this year's VBS USY Parliamentarian. I am currently a 10th grader at High Tech Los Angeles. What drew me to USY was listening to all of my friends talk about how many close friends they made and how they really wanted me to come and join in on the amazing events that USY has to offer. Through USY, I have learned about my self and my religion on a deeper level. I have also made amazing friends. My favorite favorite things to do on the weekends are to hang out with my friends, listen to music, and spend time with my family. I can’t wait to meet all of you at this year’s event!
