Valley Beth Shalom welcomes new Senior Rabbi Nolan Lebovitz.

The grandchild of four survivors of the Holocaust, Rabbi Lebovitz was raised in the suburbs outside of Chicago. He attended the Solomon Schechter Day School and North Suburban Synagogue Beth El in Highland Park. He came to Los Angeles to attend USC Film School and spent ten years as a filmmaker before enrolling in the Ziegler Rabbinical School of the American Jewish University. For seven years, Rabbi Lebovitz served with great distinction as rabbi of Adat Shalom in West Los Angeles, a congregation he revitalized and grew, bringing younger families into the community through his teaching, his leadership and his warmth.

Rabbi Lebovitz is a national board member of MERCAZ, and served as a member of the Masorti Rabbinic Cabinet and a delegate at the World Zionist Conference in Jerusalem. He volunteers as the Rabbi in Residence for Café Europa, a Los Angeles Community of Shoah Survivors. Rabbi Lebovitz volunteered as a chaplain for the Santa Monica Police Department for many years. Rabbi Lebovitz was awarded his PhD in religion at Claremont Graduate University with a focus on the Hebrew Bible, and is the recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship.

Scholar, teacher, rabbi, and community leader, VBS joyfully welcomed Rabbi Lebovitz, his wife Blair, and their three children to our community in July 2022.
